Baby Jake Matlala RIP
Johannesburg – Former South African world boxing champion Jacob “Baby Jake” Matlala has passed away at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital on Saturday morning.
He was 51.
Matlala’s death was confirmed by family spokesperson Alan McCauley.
According to EWN’s website, standing at 1.47m tall, the former WBO, WBU and IBA flyweight and light flyweight world champion Matlala was the shortest ever world boxing champion.
Matlala’s record after 68 professional fights stood at 53 wins (26 by KO), 13 losses, 2 draws.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
